CID seeks court order to probe account details of Duminda Silva

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has submitted to the Colombo Chief Magistrate a B report seeking an order to probe 82 financial institutions including 34 banks as part of their investigations into the account details of Colombo District UPFA parliamentarian R. Duminda Silva, Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told a media briefing yesterday.

Duminda Silva was the monitoring MP of the Defence Secretary in the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime.

SSP Rohana said according to investigations conducted so far, the MP had allegedly received money from the drug kingpin, Gampola Vidanalage Samantha Kumara alias Wele Sudu near a housing complex adjacent to a five star hotel in Colombo. It was for aiding and abetting in carrying out his heroin business in the country.

In the meantime, CID had been able to seize a Toyota Allion car belonging to Wele Suda which had been parked in a house located at Madiwela. The car had been used by the drug dealer’s wife.

The SSP said that the CID needed some more evidence to apprehend the suspects involved in the drug racket.

Asked whether the suspects would flee the country, the SSP said that the CID had already taken adequate measures to prevent such an attempt.

An ex-IGP who is alleged to have aided Wele Suda in the heroin racket, while he was in service, fled the country with his family soon after the recent presidential election.
